Here at Recite Me, accessibility is embedded into every phase of our development lifecycle to ensure the digital experiences we deliver are inclusive, compliant, and user-friendly for all.
1. Accessibility in Design
Accessibility considerations are incorporated at the beginning to ensure each Recite Me Toolbar feature is perceivable, operable, understandable and robust. During the design phase:
- All designs are reviewed against WCAG 2.2 (or latest applicable standard) guidelines.
- Inclusive design principles are applied to layouts, colour schemes, interactive elements, and content.
- Accessibility sign-off is required before progressing to development, ensuring all potential issues are identified and resolved early.
2. Accessibility in Development
During Development:
- Developers follow established coding standards and best practices to ensure compatibility with assistive technology and cognitive processing.
- Semantic HTML, ARIA attributes, keyboard navigation, and screen reader support are all standard components of our development approach.
- Code is peer-reviewed with accessibility as a mandatory check before merging. This is also delivered and assured through daily stand ups where accessibility improvements are discussed, remediated and implemented.
3. Accessibility in Testing
Our QA process includes:
- Manual testing with assistive technologies (e.g., screen readers, keyboard-only navigation).
- Testing across multiple devices and browsers to ensure consistent accessibility.
- A second accessibility sign-off is required after testing, prior to deployment.
4. Ongoing Audits & Live Monitoring
We conduct regular accessibility audits of live products to maintain long-term compliance and usability. These audits:
- Identify any regressions or emerging issues.
- Ensure continued alignment with evolving standards and technologies.
- Provide clients with documented results and improvement plans.
- Accessibility remediation work is carried out within multiple staging environments that help test against a variety of situations.
5. Priority Issue Management
Any accessibility issue identified whether internally or reported by users is:
- Logged and prioritised immediately.
- Added to the next development sprint as a highest-priority task.
- Resolved as quickly as possible, with clear communication to the client on progress and resolution.
Any Accessibility issues concerns should be sent to accessibility@reciteme.com where we are committed to responding within 48 hours (within working hours)
By integrating accessibility at every step, from concept to launch and beyond we ensure our Toolbar is inclusive from day one and remains that way.
